Course Overview
The course focuses on preparing trainees to reach their IELTS band requirements and achieve success in their academic and professional endeavor.
Course Aims
• To introduce trainees to the format and contents of IELTS
• To provide trainees with effective skills and strategies to take IELTS test with confidence.
• To administer regular practice tests to improve trainees’ skills in all aspects of IELTS
Course Outline
1. Listening includes talks such as extracting information from texts of varying lengths. Listening audios include university lectures, radio interviews, radio documentaries, conversations, group discussions, and monologues. Learn what pertinent information to look for and what to exclude.
2. Reading includes skimming and scanning for general or specific information such as data, statistics, facts; processing information academic and original sources such as magazines, journals, and the internet; organizing information logically.
3. Writing is divided into two tasks
Task 1 – interpret and compare data; describe tables, objects, graphs and processes (Academic) with at least 150 words in length. write either a formal or informal letter which is at least 150 words in length.
Task 2 –state and develop arguments/opinion; solve problems; logically, coherently and cohesively present information – – – paragraph mapping; write an introduction, body of ideas and conclusions using sequencing and signposting.
4. Speaking includes information in a formal interview context; trainees should provide an extended talk on a given topic; take part in a formal discussion, and give a formal talk or report about an assigned topic.
5. Grammar includes learning the language required for describing graphs and diagrams including comparatives and superlatives and the passive voice.
6. Vocabulary Topics: vocabulary words that are connected with the most common IELTS topics, such as the Environment, Science and Technology, Health, Energy, Education, Transport, The Arts, Media, and Urbanization.
